Estella’s Revenge Review Policies and Procedures

A Note to Writers Requesting Reviews

Estella’s Revenge is beginning to accumulate a large’ish pile of books to be reviewed and we get quite a few e-mails from authors and publishers requesting that we review books. In the interest of time and a pro-active stand against confusion, we decided to post the following general policies and procedures in regards to book reviews.

This form is based on a similar document at the Bluestalking Reader blog.

We love to receive review books. Our writers love getting their hands on them (as do the editors), so, by all means, don’t be shy about asking us to review your book.

But, keep in mind….

Books are reviewed based on the following:

  • If we have time. The editors and writers all hold down full lives stuffed with work, pleasure reading, writing in a number of venues, family, pets, miscellaneous hobbies, and we do sleep occasionally.
  • If someone is interested in the subject matter. Quite simply, sometimes books just don’t have any takers when the editors offer them up for review. It happens. It’s not personal. It’s simply a combination of time constraints, interest, and gumption (or lack thereof).
  • We’ll shop it around. If we can’t review it, we’ll pass the word along to our respective “connections” and see if someone will take your book off our hands and review it.

We are considering getting a P.O. box in order to receive review books. If and when we do that, we’ll post the address on the website somewhere noticeable. In the meantime, if you'd like us to review your book, contact us and we will send you the address where you may mail the book. E-mail us at: estellabooks(at)gmail(dot)com.

FAQ

How much do you charge to review a book?

Nothing! We are independent and bias-less. While this opens up the possibility for a negative review, we do maintain our objectivity and civility.

How long until I see my review?

That is completely dependent on the book’s date of arrival and redistribution (not to mention the amount of books in our current queue). If you're sending a book in advance of its publication date, just let us know when that date is so we can better plan a deadline for your book.

Where will my review appear?

It will appear on the Estella’s Revenge website, and there’s always the distinct possibility that it will appear on one of the writers’ or editors’ personal blogs. We are all relatively entrenched in book blogging culture, so the actual review or mention of your book review could also show up in a number of Yahoo! Groups, lit-blog networks and lit-sites like MetaxuCafe, Shelfari, LibraryThing, etc.

We might also copy it to retail book sites, such as Amazon.com, Amazon UK, etc.

What about interviews?

We can write and publish more interviews than book reviews, for obvious reasons. They take much less time to do. As with the reviews, we’ll publish and/or publicize these in the same venues where book reviews appear.

For purposes of PR, we ask that you provide us with a photo of yourself that we may legally use to go along with the interview. If you have a website where we can get one that's great, otherwise let us know where the photo is available, or send us a .jpg file.

If you have any other questions please feel free to send them to us at any time. We’re always happy to talk with you about how we can help promote your book. Promoting quality books and authors is one of the things Estella’s Revenge believes in, and we are very accessible and open to talking about it with you.

Thanks!
